8          On the evening of 4 July, winners of three more categories in the contest “The Flower of the Sun” were announced. The second day of the contest was dedicated to competitions in the categories of traditional folk dance group, traditional singing group and soloist. The stage welcomed performers from eight countries: Brazil, India, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia and Turkey. 

      As the jury member Darius Daknys says, “there were no extended discussions among jury members when evaluating the performances, the opinions of the members were almost the same. The second day of the contest was the most successful to Lithuanian performers, since they had won even four prizes.”

      “Grupo Etnográfico De Areosa” (Portugal) was recognised as the best traditional folk dance ensemble. The second prize in this category went to Brazilian “Centro De Tradicoes Gauchas Giuseppe Garibaldi”. The third prize was awarded to the ensemble from India, “IMFA Performing Troupe”.

      In the category of traditional singing, the first prize went to Vilnius Russian folk ensemble “Verėja” (Lithuania). Another ensemble from Lithuania, “Aidija”, was very close to victory and took the second prize. Two third places were shared by the ensembles “Topl’an from Slovakia and “Ina” from Poland.
      In the category of solo vocalists, the victory was on Samet Kölemen’s from Turkey side. By the way, this performer was also acknowledged as the best solo instrumentalist on the day before. The second prize went to Irina Osipova from Lithuania. The third place was shared by a Brazilian performer Fabiano Dias and a Lithuanian singer Diana Šeduikienė.

      The contestants were judged by the international jury members: Gabriel Frontera Mestre (Spain), Junior Augusto Murillo Madrigal (Colombia), Ernests Spīčs (Latvia), Diana Martinaitienė (Lithuania), Adelė Gružienė (Lithuania) and Darius Daknys (Lithuania). For the seventh time, the jury was headed by the ethnomusicologist Zita Kelmickaitė (Lithuania).

      According to the jury member Gabriel Frontera Mestre (Spain), high-class performances were demonstrated on the second day of the contest. The jury member could not hide his appreciation for Lithuanian folk ensembles.     

      On 6 July, the final day of the contest-festival “The Flower of the Sun”, the “Grand Prix” winner will be announced and awarded EUR 1500 at the end of the gala concert.
